So, suspecting corrupted Windows files, I ran SFC /scannow. USB thumbdrives (and USB keyboard and mouse) also work fine. Some, but not all, external hard disks work, too, when connected via USB. The Canon installation failed, too it appears the USB connection is failing (regardless of which cable or actual physical USB port is used). After uninstalling HP drivers, confirming the registry keys were clear of print driver detritus, clearing temp files, confirming the print spooler service was operating properly and rebooting, I tried installing the Canon printer. ![]() The client asked me to install a different printer (a Canon model). The client was having trouble installing an HP printer, so HP connected remotely to his system to try and fix the problem. I have a client's HP Media Center PC m1050y on my workbench (Microsoft license holographic tag reads Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005).
